Vince McMahon was apparently dead set on doing another "Brawl for All" shootfighting event back in the late 2000s — this time, with the NXT roster.Former writer and producer John Piermarini says the WWE Chairman "had to be talked out of it" following the failure and controversy of the first event, which left a number of wrestlers injured. Piermarini revealed the scrapped plan on Twitter Tuesday night after watching VICE's Dark Side of the Ring, which chronicled the fallout from Brawl for All.RELATED: Braun Strowman Is the Luckiest Champion in WWE History

"Funny story - while on creative in either 2009 or 2010 Vince wanted to do another Brawl For All with the guys competing on NXT (in its original format)," said Piermarini, who praised the Dark Side producers.

The Brawl for All event lasted from June to August 1998 and featured several big names. Former UFC fighters Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock were in WWE at the time, but only Severn competed. He wound up withdrawing, however. Bart Gunn won the tournament and a prize of $75,000.

According to WWE bookers and employees, the idea of having a shoot-style fighting tournament was floated by Vince Russo after John "Bradshaw" Layfield suggested that he could beat anyone in WWE in a bar fight. JBL went on to lose to Gunn in the fourth and final round.
