Tomb Raider 2 won't be raiding theaters anytime soon.

With theaters still closed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, MGM  Studios announced its latest theatrical delays, including Tomb Raider 2, which was removed from the release calendar.

The Tomb Raider sequel was originally set to debut in theaters on March 19, 2021 and was expected to feature Alicia Vikander reprising her role as Lara Croft. Ben Wheatley, the director of Netflix's adaptation of Rebecca, is directing based on a script written by Amy Jump.

Although there was very little information released about the sequel, it was rumored to have drawn inspiration from the 2018 video game and the third installment of the reboot series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Filming was expected to occur across a number of different countries, including England, South Africa, Finland and China. However, MGM had not started filming yet or set a production start date.

Along with MGM's announcement that Tomb Raider 2 would be delayed, the studio also revealed that the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect will be delayed from Jan. 15  to Aug. 13, 2021.

Directed by Ben Wheatley, Tomb Raider 2 stars Alicia Vikander. The film currently has no release date.
