Last week saw Minecraft's Steve join the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Coinciding with Steve's release was the 9.0.0 balance patch, which saw a number of characters receive numerous buffs and changes. Not even a week after this new patch, Nintendo released another patch, 9.0.1.

Unlike the first patch, 9.0.1 focuses entirely on fixing numerous glitches related to Steve's moves, which included characters freezing and falling through terrain and stages after being hit by Steve's blocks. However, the most noteworthy change isn't to Steve's special moves, but to one of his victory poses.

One of Steve's victory animations after winning a match sees him chomping on a steak, similar to one of his taunts. At the end of the pose, the camera and steak are angled in such a way that the steak looks phallic. News quickly spread around the Smash community, leading to a plethora of jokes about the pose.

Nintendo took notice and altered the pose in the 9.0.1 patch by removing the steak after Steve finished eating it. The removal of this controversial image is significant, but it isn't the first time that characters in Super Smash Bros. have faced censors or alterations.

In Super Smash Bros. for WiiU/3DS, characters like Peach and Zelda had the underside of their dresses obscured by shadows in order to cover their legs and underwear. Bayonetta, a highly sexualized character famous for getting naked throughout her original games, had to be heavily censored before being added to Smash WiiU/3DS.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Palutena's design was altered so her thighs were less exposed. Certain female spirits in SSBU's spirit mode -- such as Fire Emblem's Camilla and Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Mythra -- had their designs altered so their legs and chests were covered.

While it's understandable why Nintendo would alter Steve's pose, many gamers still feel the change was unnecessary and that it did nothing but ruin a good joke. Even though the steak is gone, at least fans get the satisfaction of watching Smash fans on Twitter write about Nintendo "cutting Steve's meat off."
