The first official photo for director Steven Spielberg's West Side Story has been revealed. The photo features the first look at Ariana DeBose, who will portray Anita in the remake, which is the role previously held by Rita Moreno.

Anita can be seen standing on a fire escape high above the New York City streets, wearing a bright yellow dress and a big smile on her face.

Released in 1961, West Side Story was directed by Robert Wise, the celebrated auteur behind such classics as The Sound of Music and Star Trek the Motion Picture. Wise's work on the musical drama would go on to win 10 Oscar awards, among them Best Picture.

Rita Moreno won an Academy Award for the role of Anita, who has her share of solos in several songs. Moreno returns to executive produce and star in a different supporting role -- Valentina, a revamping of the store owner, Doc.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, West Side Story stars Rachel Zegler (Maria), Ansel Elgort (Tony), Ariana DeBose (Anita), David Alvarez (Bernardo), Mike Faist (Riff), Josh Andrés Rivera (Chino), Corey Stoll (Lieutenant Schrank) and Brian d’Arcy James (Sergeant Krupke). Rita Moreno will return as Valentina, an expanded version of the corner store owner, Doc. The film arrives in theaters Dec. 18, 2020.
