Lost alum Dominic Monaghan is set to play a brand-new character in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. As it turns out, however, those who follow IDW Publishing's Star Wars Adventures comic book series already got a sneak peek at Monaghan's resistance trooper earlier this year.

Trading card manufacturer Tops recently revealed its Rise of Skywalker Series 2 Base Set cards (via Beckett) -- and with them, the official name of Monaghan's character: Beaumont Kin. If that name sounds at all familiar, it's because a character named Beaumont -- who bears a striking resemblance to Monaghan -- made his first appearance in IDW's Star Wars Adventures #27 back in October.

Beaumont appeared in both Star Wars Adventures #27 and November's issue #28, the first two parts of the "Ghosts of Kashyyyk" -- which is slated to conclude with Star Wars Adventures #29 on Dec. 11. Beaumont Kin is a resistance trooper who joined the Resistance in its war against the First Order -- ostensibly after his parents dismissed him as being "useless." Beaumont took part in the Resistance's defense of the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk from a First Order blockade. Along the way, he became acquainted with none other than Chewbacca.

According to Inverse, Rise of Skywalker director/co-writer J.J. Abrams specifically wrote the character of Beaumont with Monaghan in mind, as the two had previously worked together on Lost. However, Monaghan was not approached to play the character in 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Rather, he was given the role of Beaumont for The Rise of Skywalker as part of a bet with Abrams after England defeated Columbia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
