WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "Zari, Not Zari," the latest episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow.

Legends of Tomorrow returned from its unexpected hiatus this week with Episode 8 of Season 5, "Zari, Not Zari," and in addition to its shocking character death, the episode revealed that Charlie and her sisters, the Three Fates from Greek Mythology, aren't just a mid-season complication.

The beginning of this season focused on John Constantine's ongoing battle to save Astra, a character from NBC's short-lived Constantine series he had failed keep out of hell, from the demon she has become. At the same time, the Waverider's crew has had to contend with her "encores," sixteen souls freed from hell and sent back to the land of the living on the day of their death to wreak havoc on time and harvest souls. This led many viewers to believe that Astra was this season's Big Bad. However, this episode revealed that a previously unnamed character has been pulling the strings all along.

First appearing in Episode 4, "A Head of Her Time," a mysterious woman has been giving Astra advice and helping her decide how to handle her various schemes, even going so far as to encourage her to gather the pieces of the Loom of Fate. Played by actress Sarah Strange, this woman was known only as "the coin maker" and has been with Astra every step of the way.

Now, in "Zari, Not Zari," she was finally revealed to be Charlie's sister Lachesis, one of the Three Fates. Viewers have been led to believe that the Loom of Fate was a mid-season addition to Astra overarching season plot-line, but with this reveal, they now know that the Fates have been behind all of the Legends' misfortunes.

Sarah Strange's character has been helping and mentoring Astra since the beginning, and if she truly is one of the Fates, that means that Astra's plan has been their plan all along. Though it does seem like Astra may not be aware of her mentor's true identity, it's now crystal clear that the Fates have been using her from the beginning to bring down their sister.

Airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan and Jes Macallan. The show returned Tuesday, April 21.
