The HBO Max spinoff series set in the universe of the upcoming DC film The Batman has just lost one of its showrunners.

According to THR, Terence Winter has exited the project due to creative differences between Winter and other personnel on the project, including The Batman director Matt Reeves. The production is already looking for a new showrunner to replace Winter.

The spinoff series is a prequel to The Batman centered on the Gotham City Police Department. Reeves previously said the project follows Gotham City as a "masked vigilante…starts to unsettle the city." It will look at the corruption within the city that "goes back many years."

Although Reeves played coy on who the main character would be, he highlighted a specific member of the GCPD. This crooked cop will be the focus of the show, which Reeves explained "is actually a battle for his soul."

Directed by Matt Reeves and written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrel as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson. The film arrives in theaters March 4, 2022.
