WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Hawkeye: Freefall #3 by Matthew Rosenberg, Otto Schmidt and VC's Joe Sabino, on sale now.

In Hawkeye: Freefall, Clint Barton has been on the trail of the Hood, but the thing about Clint is that his life is more or less a bit of a mess. Despite him being an Avenger, his solo adventures always come with trouble and more than a few bandages -- and the worst part is, most of the time he's the architect of his own woes. Such is still the case in Freefall, which sees the Avenging Archer use a piece of time-travel tech to work on the double: once as Ronin an hour in the future, and once as Hawkeye. That way, he is in two places at once, but no one knows about it.

Well, no one except Bryce, the Hood's tech support guy. In Hawkeye: Freefall #2, Bryce figures out Clint and Hawkeye are one and the same. In issue #3, the hijinks continue as Clint joins forces with Bryce to fix the mess he's once again created. This all leads to the recreation of a classic joke from the fan-favorite NBC sitcom, Friends.

In Freefall #3, Clint Barton believes he's found the solution to his time-travel problem. Luckily for him, secret spy organization S.H.I.E.L.D. has robotic duplicates of all of the Avengers, meant to be used in case one of them were to fall in battle. These LMDs (Life Model Decoys) are kept in storage, but Bryce and Clint manage to steal one. They bring it back home to Clint's apartment, but it's not exactly an easy job. The LMD is inside a big wooden box and the two have to carry it up the stairs.

Trying his best to keep a low profile, Clint lies to an unsuspecting neighbor who asks what's in the box. He says it's a sofa and the lie seems to be convincing enough, despite the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo plastered on the side of the box. ("They gotta do something," Clint tells his neighbor.) Then, as he and Bryce move the box up the stairs, Clint says, "Pivot. Pivot."

To the unsuspecting reader, this is just a panel of Bryce and Clint moving a large box up the stairs -- but fans of Friends will instantly understand the reference. In the sitcom's Season 5 episode "The One with the Cop," Ross purchases a new couch and Chandler and Rachel agree to help him move it to his apartment after the store's moving fees are deemed too expensive for the paleontologist. However, once at Ross' apartment building, the couch proves to be an impossible challenge to get up the stairs. It's simply too big to fit into the stairs and Ross, in his desperation, keeps ordering Chandler and Rachel to "Pivot!" the couch, despite there being no room for them to pivot anything. The joke is a classic bit from the series' 10-year run and it's since become a popular meme.

Hawkeye: Freefall is a humorous title filled with jokes, so it makes perfect sense to have Clint make such a hilarious remark as he tries to move an android copy of himself up to his apartment. At least his pivoting worked better than Ross'. In the comic, Hawkeye is successful in getting the LMD in his living room. As for Ross... well, he had to go full Ronin on his couch.
