WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy #7 by Donny Cates, Cory Smith, David Curiel and Cory Petit, in stores now.

In the Marvel Universe, romance has found its way into the Guardians of the Galaxy books at certain junctures. Recently, Phyla-Vell and Moondragon came back from another reality to rekindle theirs. Now, in Donny Cates' current run and trailing back to Infinity Wars, a romance between two of the team's most popular members has been budding, burning white hot at times.

Thanks to Issue #7, it's fully blossomed and, in the process, Cates has made a relationship from the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon by finally having Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) and Gamora move forward as a cosmic couple.

Gamora's been involved with a Guardian in the past, as she was the beloved girlfriend of Richard Rider (aka Nova). Their romance seemingly died when he perished in the Cancerverse and, even upon his return, Marvel hasn't addressed their past or potential future. In fact, Nova has apparently moved on just as much as Gamora, though a love triangle could pop up at any point, as Nova admitted to Quill before both got trapped in that dark dimension how much he wanted to marry and have kids with her.

Still, it seems like Quill is the person her heart fully belongs to as we see them in bed on the debaucherous planet Dolo-Mayan. They've gone there for some R&R, with Groot even gambling and winning them a new ship, the Bowie. They're all trying to forget the drama that befell them recently when the Thanos rebirth arc killed Starfox and almost took Gamora out.

In fact, seeing as she stabbed Quill there, as well as when she was Requiem, fans are likely shocked he's forgotten how easily she tried to kill him to save the world in her warped view. But it looks like love has prevailed, as they're very cuddly and discussing how time and mortality could take them away from each other at any moment, so it makes sense to seize the day.

Gamora was also once in love with Adam Warlock, who loyalists consider to be her first real love after they bonded in the Infinity Watch, trying to ensure Thanos never got his hands on a decked-out Infinity Gauntlet again. While this relationship came off more as though they were obligated to each other due to proximity and duty, the Quill affair does feel more organic here, as they've been through a lot.

Now, Gamora's Nova romance did start off as lust, but when they bonded during the Annihilation War Gamora truly made a connection with Richard, so it's clear she does need a shoulder to lean on when she's in the thick of things. In this case, the just as vulnerable Quill (someone who's loved her since he first saw her) does indeed feel like the right, natural option, as they've just been through so much together.

Most importantly, this direction aligns with director James Gunn and the MCU where Chris Pratt's Quill and Zoe Saldana's Gamora are seen as the it-couple right after Iron Man and Pepper Potts. For two movies, their burgeoning romance has teased fans, and it came full-circle in Avengers: Infinity War when Quill broke after Thanos killed her. Of course, with Gamora returning from a timeline before in Endgame, their romance is back to zero, which means a third Guardians film will most likely see Quill pursuing her -- thus it's an appealing notion for the comics to have some sort of commonality.

It's all about brands connecting, because with Gamora and Quill in love in both the books and the movies, it's easier for fans to cross mediums and truly grasp that this duo are a power couple and Marvel's premier lovebirds. How long this will last in Cates' run remains to be seen because, as they're exploring a life together, the revamped and deadlier Universal Church of the Truth already has plans to make sure Quill, Gamora and their peers have no future at all.

Guardians of the Galaxy #8 hits shelves Aug. 21.
