Based on the first few episode titles for Batwoman Season 2, Kate Kane's (Ruby Rose) disappearance will play a large role in the story early on in the season.

The CW released the episode titles for the first five episodes of the series' sophomore season. Episode 2.01 will be titled "Whatever Happened to Kate Kane?" and will be followed by "Prior Criminal History," "Bat Girl Magic!," "Fair Skin, Blue Eyes" and "Gore on Canvas." According to showrunner Caroline Dries, Kate will disappear from Gotham very suddenly at the start of the season, causing problems for her friends and the city.

Original Batwoman Rose left the series earlier this year for a variety of reasons, including some related to COVID-19. She was replaced by Javicia Leslie, who joined the cast of The CW drama this past July. Leslie will play Ryan Wilder, a brand new character who will take over the mantle of the Scarlet Knight from Kate. According to the character description, Wilder is very different from Kate, having spent years as drug-runner and currently living in a van with her plant. Like Kate, she is gay and a highly skilled warrior, although their fighting styles differ greatly.

Leslie is not the only new cast member joining the series for Season 2. Shivaani Ghai will play Safiyah, the villainous ruler of a small community on the island of Coryana who was referenced multiple times in Season 1. Leah Gibson will portray Tatiana, a skilled assassin known as The Whisper who is loyal to Safiyah, while Nathan Owens will star as Ocean, a zen gardener and loyal soldier who comes to Gotham looking for a fresh start. Meanwhile, Alex Morf will play Victor Zsasz, "a charismatic, skilled hitman with high, unpredictable energy. He proudly carves tally marks onto his skin for every victim he kills."
