Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are taking advantage of Dodo Codes to visit stranger's islands and acquire items, DIY recipes, star pieces and more. This includes posting codes on social media -- which can sometimes even lead to celebrity visitors who want to sell turnips -- and creating resources to share with the game's global community. Among the fan-made resources that exist online is Nookazon, perhaps the most comprehensive item catalog and trading website currently in existence for players.

Through Nookazon, players can create wishlists, post items they want to sell or trade and even search for villagers they want to move to their islands. Creating an account is free and communication happens primarily through Discord, though players can also include social media handles in their profiles for non-Discord exchanges.

Basically, Nookazon operates as an open marketplace. Anyone can create an account and make trades, which means it's up to users to vet people to the best of their ability before trading. Users can leave reviews for those they've traded with, which allows others to determine whether they're likely to get scammed before committing. The site also has warnings posted for things like art, which can be fake, but unfortunately, no one at Nookazon can recover lost items, Bells, or Nook Miles. If a user does get scammed, their only recourse is to leave a scathing review and attempt to warn others away from the user who hoodwinked them.

That said, most trades through Nookazon seem to go well. Full disclosure: While researching the marketplace for this piece, We made three trades with different users and actually gave each person a five-star rating. Two trades were quick: We messaged the person whose listing we wanted on Discord and they opened their airport gates via Dodo Code. We visited, dropped our payment, took our item and left. The third island we visited, the player allowed us to stay and chat with Celeste to get a new DIY recipe, as well as wish on some stars.

Furthermore, the reviews system makes Nookazon a more secure trading portal than social media. Visiting stranger's islands is always a gamble, as is inviting strangers over -- however, the impetus to get a good rating on the site so more players will trade increases a player's profit and gives them more opportunity to gain items they desire. Thus, it doesn't actually pay for players to scam each other.

Nookazon Categories

In addition to searching for items by name on Nookazon, players can also browse listings by category. These include housewares, clothing, fossils, villagers, materials and DIY recipes. Users can also create specific wishlists for categories, sets or themes, much like people can on Nookazon's real-world inspiration.

When a player wants to trade something in their possession, they can list it with a request for Bells, Nook Miles Tickets, or other items. They can also list it with the instruction to "Make an offer," which allows someone who wants to purchase their listing to offer what they think the item is worth. Most traders are reasonable with their requests, but it's recommended that players avoid the truly outrageous trade requests -- after all, most DIY recipes will come along in a balloon or bottle eventually, or a villager will offer it when they're crafting. Furthermore, the ability to travel to friend's islands and "catalog" items by picking them up and dropping them again gives players plenty of opportunities to acquire items they want without ever having to trade with strangers.

Nookazon certainly isn't for every player, but those who want to speed up the acquisition process for their favorite items or villagers (with or without time traveling) may want to consider making an account and at least poking around. Plus, players can offload items they don't want for more than they would get by selling to Timmy and Tommy at Nook's Cranny, which may be desirable -- especially for high-cost, hard-to-find items that could fall out of trees or balloons. Trading with strangers has risks, but they're mostly minimal.

Nookazon has an official Discord Server, though overwhelming demand is creating some outages at time of writing. Additionally, the site has a Patreon, where users who want to contribute financially can earn special rewards by pledging on a monthly basis.
